Description
Domaine de la Romanee-Conti Romanee Saint Vivant Grand Cru 1984 [Condition Note/Read Desc]
Domaine de la Romane-Conti, or DRC as it is commonly known, is easily Burgundy’s best-known and most collectible wine producer. Based in the Burgundy village of Vosne-Romane, the domaine sells wines from eight different grand cru vineyards that span the length of the Cte d’Or. The most famous comes from the eponymous Romane-Conti vineyard, and on average is the most expensive wine in the world.
Romane-Saint-Vivant is a grand cru vineyard on the lower slopes of the Cte d’Or escarpment in Vosne-Romane. It covers 9.4 hectares (23 acres) of land, making it the largest climat in the village although it is of average size when compared with all of Burgundy’s grand crus. Romane-Saint-Vivant’s Pinot Noir wines tend to be lighter and more aromatic than other grands crus in Vosne-Romane.
The “Romane” part of the title dates back to the time before the vineyards were sub-divided by various acquisitions and sales, and Romane-Saint-Vivant was the eastern part of the larger Romane site. The “Saint-Vivant” name comes from the order of L’Abbaye de Saint-Vivant whose monks originally tended to the vines.
