Vincent Careme Cuvee T Vouvray Petillant-Mousseux Chenin Blanc 2017
Vouvray Ptillant and Vouvray Mousseux are the official (if rarely used) titles for Vouvray’s sparkling wines, made from Chenin Blanc. The former is semi sparkling, the latter fully so.
The wines are collectively and colloquially known to the locals as fines bulles, which means ‘fine bubbles’. This old, traditional phrase is sometimes still seen on labels, and in some marketing contexts alongside the more familiar term mthode traditionelle.
Like good Champagne, well made Vouvray Ptillant and Vouvray Mousseux wines have a tight, persistent bead of bubbles and a gently nutty, mealy nose. These are a result of its extended lees contact which often last much longer than the statutory 12 months.
