Description
Breckenridge Port Cask Finish Bourbon Whiskey is made by using their flagship high-rye bourbon (aged for around 3 years in new American oak), then finishing it for 4 to 6 months in casks previously used in the aging of tawny port wine. Colorado distilled and made.
This award-winning Bourbon Whiskey gets some final grooming in 59 gallon Tawny Port casks, adding aroma and flavor of sultana raisin and maple syrup, which round out and soften the naturally spicy finish. Thanks to the superior Tawny Port casks, each batch flaunts a unique expression.
Tasting Notes:
Nose:Oddly muted overall, and not at all in the traditional bourbon wheelhouse of aromas. It took me some time to settle on the scents, but its a strange mix of wine cellar and tanning salon.
Palate:A bit musty and quite dry, it isnt at all what I expected. Barely any sweet notes with muted dark red fruit, oak, and spice constitute its flavor profile.
Finish: A hard wine aftertaste creeps up, but then quickly fades. Overall on the dry side with only fleeting moments of sweetness.
Mashbill: 56% Corn / 38% Rye / 6% Malted Barley.
