Description

One of a few distilleries built to produce blending whisky, GlenAllachie (pronounced Glen-al-ACK-ee) was founded by Mackinlay, McPherson and Co to provide malt whisky for Mackinlay blends. The distillery stands in the heart of Speyside, at the foot of Ben Rinnes and in relatively close proximity to Aberlour. Both whisky distilleries draw their water from springs in the mountains.

Formally owned by Chivas Bothers, GlenAllachie was bought by the independent “GlenAllachie Distillers Company”, which is operated by former BenRiach MD Billy Walker. Billy Walker is an industry legend, he has revitalised several mothballed distilleries including BenRiach and GlenDronach.

The GlenAllachie Distillers Co. was lucky enough to inherit a vast amount of aged stocks from the previous owners though Billy Walker has started to put his own stamp on the spirit. Fermentations and capacity have been slowed to produce a more fruity, refined spirit for the future.

Every batch we create of our 10-year-old Cask Strength represents the direction in which we are taking The GlenAllachie, Master Distiller, Billy Walker. The ninth iteration of our coveted decade-old batch release is no different, showcasing the richness and complexities of our honeyed spirit after maturation in the finest oak.

Guided by 50 years of experience and fuelled by his passion for wood management, Billy crafted Batch 9 with perfection in mind. A marriage of spirit from Pedro Ximnez and Oloroso Sherry casks, along with Rioja barriques and medium charred/medium toasted American Virgin Oak barrels, this mahogany malt sits proudly alongside its predecessors. Delivering classic Sherried notes of indulgent dark chocolate and dried fruits, coupled with sweet spices and red berries, this prized release is one to be savoured.

Batch 11 is bottled at natural cask strength of 59.4%, without chill-filtration or added colour.

Tasting Notes

Bursting with ripe red berries, hazelnuts and heather honey, with hints of orchard fruits, cinnamon spice and gingersnaps.

Lashings of dark chocolate, honeycomb and caramelised demerara sugar, followed by notes of treacle, mocha and ginger, with plum and toffee on the finish.
