Working with vines old and new across the Cape, Kleine Oranjerie captures the Capes marvellous menagerie of vines in a glass. We are fortunate to source fruit from exceptional sites, from our farm in Franschhoek to the farthest-flung blocks of the Western Cape. All our wines are gently pressed and naturally-fermented the better to express the unique personality and provenance of our wines. We champion old vineyards over 35 years old, some indeed planted in the 1900s. Beneath the mighty dome of the Capes wild weather we finesse our wild ferments. Welcome to the small world of Kleine Oranjerie.
Kleine Oranjerie wines are certified as part of South Africas sustainability accreditation, the Integrated Production of Wine (IPW) system. The IPW scheme, started in 1998, consists of a set of audited guidelines specifying agricultural practices, manufacturing practices and bottling activities.
Production
From Paarl vineyards grown on sandy loams, where timing of harvest is crucial to the varietal balance of aromatics, generosity of palate and freshness. Kleine Oranjerie Viognier does exactly that and is a hugely welcome, judiciously finessed addition to our South African portfolio.
Tasting Notes
A beautifully focussed, restrained yet generous wine with a delicacy and lightness of touch not often found in Viognier at this price level.
A classic varietal nose of jasmine, white peach and fruit blossom, with a hint of white pepper. The palate is ripe and full-flavoured with exotic, tropical fruit flavours balanced offset by bright, zingy acidity leading to a gingery, textural finish.
Thai green curry, Cape Malay curries, goats cheese and roast veg.
