Description

Founded in the 15th century, Pez is the oldest domaine in Saint-Estphe. The Pontac family, then-owners of Chteau Haut-Brion, gave Pez its vineyards. The property remained in the hands of descendants until the French Revolution. Sold as a property of the state, the domaine belonged to a succession of families until 1995, when it was purchased by Champagne Louis Roederer.

Chteau de Pez is one of the oldest properties in Bordeauxs Left Bank and consists of 118 continuous acres with 103 acres planted to prime grape varieties, mainly merlot and cabernet sauvignon. Thanks to the quality of its production, Chteau de Pez is counted among the most highly reputed crus of the Mdoc and was reclassified as a Cru Bourgeois Exceptionnel in 2003.

Tasting Notes:

Very expressive nose of morello cherry and brown tobacco, with sweet notes of liquorice candy and peony. A complex palate, expressing violet and fresh blackcurrant, finishing with hints of thyme and a touch of bitter orange zest that gives the finish a gourmet taste. It is a sensual and charming, yet restrained Saint-Estephe. Silky, smooth tannins give this Pez 2018 a precise and refined length.
