Description

The Grand Bourjassot 2022 Gigondas is a powerful yet elegant Southern Rhne red that reflects the rugged beauty of the Dentelles de Montmirail foothills. Built on old-vine Grenache with supporting Rhne varieties, it delivers intense dark fruit, warm spice, and mineral depth framed by structured tannins. Rich yet balanced, this wine captures the classic style of Gigondasbold, expressive, and capable of both immediate enjoyment and graceful aging.

Origins & Craftsmanship

Domaine du Grand Bourjassot is a family-run estate located on the western slopes of Gigondas in the Southern Rhne Valley, founded in 1993 and now run by Ccile Varenne, who expanded the vineyards and refined the estates winemaking approach.

  • Appellation
    • Gigondas AOC, Southern Rhne Valley, France
    • Gigondas is considered one of the Rhnes most prestigious villages, known for powerful Grenache-based wines grown on hillside vineyards beneath the Dentelles de Montmirail.
  • Vineyards
    • The estate farms parcels averaging over 65 years of vine age, contributing remarkable concentration and depth of flavor.
    • Soils are primarily limestone and rocky clay, providing structure and mineral lift.
  • Blend Composition
    • Typical vineyard composition is approximately:
    • 70% Grenache
    • 22% Syrah
    • 8% Mourvdre
  • Viticulture
    • Vines are farmed with organic principles, emphasizing minimal chemical intervention and sustainable vineyard practices.
  • Winemaking
    • Grapes are hand-harvested and fermented with natural yeasts.
    • Fermentation often incorporates whole clusters for additional aromatic complexity.
    • The wine is primarily aged in tank, preserving freshness and purity of fruit.

Production is relatively small, with roughly 700 cases annually, reinforcing the wines artisanal character.
