Description

The second chapter of The Dalmore Luminary Series a three-part collaboration between The Dalmore and V&A Dundee, Scotland’s design museum pairs Master Whisky Maker Gregg Glass and the legendary Richard Paterson OBE with Melodie Leung, director at the iconic Zaha Hadid Architects. The presentation case, with its swirling copper vortex design, evokes the spiraling lines of Leung’s glass sculpture created for the ultra-rare companion piece, The Rare (a 49-year-old malt available in just three decanters, auctioned at Sotheby’s). The Collectible is the accessible counterpart available in 20,000 bottles globally.

What makes this expression stand out even within Dalmore’s storied range is its incorporation of an exceptionally rare peated Dalmore component something rarely seen from the distillery, which is known for its unpeated Highland character. This trace of smoke (approximately 0.5% of the blend) adds a subtle, herbal earthiness that lifts and complicates the richer sweet and fruit notes. The 16-year-old single malt begins in American white oak ex-bourbon barrels, then finishes in Graham’s Tawny Port pipes and 30-year-old Apostoles Sherry casks. Non-chill filtered, natural colour, bottled at 48.6% ABV.

FAQ

Why is there peated Dalmore in the Luminary No. 2?
Dalmore is known as an unpeated Highland distillery making any peated component from the distillery extraordinarily rare. The Luminary No. 2 includes a tiny trace of peated Dalmore matured in refill bourbon casks, contributing a delicate herbal smokiness that adds another dimension without dominating the fruity, rich character of the expression.

Who is Melodie Leung?
A director at Zaha Hadid Architects the studio founded by the legendary late architect Dame Zaha Hadid. Leung co-created the Luminary No. 2 glass sculpture (produced for The Rare), and its swirling form inspired the copper vortex packaging for The Collectible. Her design language fluid, dynamic, and architectural directly shaped the visual identity of this release.
