In February we ran our first class of a series on what I am calling “my big 5 Bourbon distilleries.” Four Roses was up first, and it was a huge hit. In the coming months we will dive into the other 4 (Buffalo Trace, Jim Beam, Wild Turkey & Heaven Hill) These 5 (including Four Roses) are some of the most important distilleries in Bourbon, and American Whiskey, producing large amounts making it available to everyone, while also producing some of the most iconic bottlings around.
For our 2nd class of this series, we move on to Buffalo Trace! The range of premium whiskey brands under Buffalo Trace’s umbrella is remarkable to say the least. Today, they are responsible for the lines of whiskeys released under the brands Elmer T Lee, Eagle Rare, Weller, Van Winkle, Stagg, Blantons, EH Tayor… Some of their bottlings are well into the thousands of dollars! While they still release extremely affordable whiskeys like Sazerac Rye, and Buffalo Trace Bourbon.
For this class we’ll dive into a bit of the history, while we try to uncover the identity of BT that we find in these wide range of releases.
Every year since 2012 Buffalo Trace releases a batch of EH Taylor Barrel Proof that has consistently been exceptional! And one of the highlights of this class weill certainly be EH Taylor Barrel Proof (Batch 14a form 2025)!
Most of what we taste in this class will be allocated products from Buffalo Trace
The class will also include some particularly chosen nosh for pairing.
