Description
Part 5 of “my big 5 Bourbon distilleries.” Four Roses was up first, Buffalo Trace second, with Wild Turkey third, and Jim Beam fourth in our series, and now it is time for Heaven Hill! These 5 are some of the most important distilleries in Bourbon, and American Whiskey, producing large amounts making it available to everyone, while also producing some of the most iconic bottlings around.
There is more to the story of the Beam family than Jim Beam! From Heaven Hill’s inception through 2018, all of the master distillers were part of the Beam family, including the late and storied Parker Beam. Parker has been without doubt one of the most important people in the modern history of Bourbon, crafting the first super-premium small batch, Elijah Craig, along with the most innovative top tier line in American Whiskey, the Parker’s Heritage Collection.
Today Heaven Hill is one of the biggest producers of Bourbon while remaining family owned. The product line include Evan Williams, Elijah Craig, Bernheim, Old Fitzgerald, Larceny, Parker’s Heritage Collection, William Heavenhill, Henry McKenna, Rittenhouse, and even Widow Jane though that is not entirely distilled at Heaven Hill, and more.
For this class we’ll dive into a bit of the history, while we try to uncover the identity of HH distillery that we find in their range of bottlings.
We’ll be tasting a whiskey that fell just inches outsite of my top 10 on our recent trip to KYParker’s Heritage Collection’s 19th edition 11 Year Cask Strength American Whiskey. This blend includes 15-year-old Kentucky Straight Wheated Bourbon, aged in Rickhouse A; 11-year-old Kentucky Straight Corn Whiskey aged in Rickhouses DD, GG, and BB; and 12-year-old Whiskey aged in Rickhouse Y, made from only two grains rye and malt.
The class will also include some particularly chosen nosh for pairing.
Tickets are non-refundable.
