      Producer Information

Chteau Larmande is a historic Saint-Emilion Grand Cru Class wine estate situated 1.6km (one mile) due north of Saint-Emilion town. Neighboring fellow Grand Cru Class (and stablemate) Chteau Soutard, Larmande is one of the oldest wine-producing properties in the region, with vines documented at the estate as far back as 1569. It currently produces a Merlot-dominant Bordeaux blend and a second wine, La Cadet de Larmande. The estate spans 20 hectares (49 acres) of vineyards, planted to 65 percent Merlot, 30 percent Cabernet Franc and five percent Cabernet Sauvignon, with vines averaging 30 years old. The vineyard is composed primarily of ancient sands with smaller portions of clay-limestone and siliceous clay in the soil. Chteau Larmande’s grand vin broadly mirrors the vineyard proportions of Merlot, Cabernet Franc and Cabernet Sauvignon. The grapes are vinified in stainless steel vats and aged in French oak barrels (of which around 60 percent are new) and amphorae for 18 months. Around 70,000 bottles of Chteau Larmande are produced annually. The chteau was owned by the Mneret and Capdemourlin families (owners of Chteau Cap de Mourlin) for decades before the French insurance company, La Mondiale, purchased Larmande in 1990. La Mondiale has since purchased Chteau Grand Faurie la Rose, Chteau Cadet Piola and Chteau Soutard all in Saint-Emilion.
