Distillery Information
Edetria is an estate in Terra Alta, the most southerly wine DO in Catalonia (Catalunya), Spain. It focuses on Garnacha (Grenache) and other indigenous varieties, old vines and organic winegrowing. Production also emphasizes minimalist winemaking, strict vineyard management and low yields. This is the personal project of one of the leading winemakers in Terra Alta, Joan ngel Lliberia, an agronomist by training. His grandfather produced bulk wines, as did his father ngel, an oenologist, who sold his grapes to the local cooperative while he studied winemaking in France for ten years. Joan used the family vines to found Edetria in 2003 with a modern winery surrounded by some of the plots. Joan ngel studied agricultural engineering in Lleida and then a Master of Science in Wine Management at OIV (Office International de la Vigne et du vin). After working for several wine companies in France he moved back to Catalunya, where he continued his career in the wine sector and later on multinational corporations, before being drawn back to his family property.
