Every whisky has a story, and every story needs a whisky. Cask 88 is a family-owned company and among the worlds foremost experts in rare and old whisky, serving clients around the world from their offices in Edinburgh, Hong Kong and Singapore.
This expression celebrates the connection and history between Banffshire, Scotland, and Banff, Alberta, Canada. It is an 11 year old Benrinnes that was aged for 9 years in ex-fill Bourbon Casks and finished for two additional years in Oloroso Sherry Octaves.
Total worldwide outturn: 230 bottles.
Nose: Distinct red wine aroma with a bit of ethanol. Juicy Fruit gum and a bit of citrus.
Palate: Big tannins and very dry. Expected spice and bold fruits given the two years in octaves, but instead, you get a nuanced dram with all the complexity of Benrinnes with the tannic tug on the sides of your tongue. Fruits are there, but understated.
Finish: Very long, and finally, the oak spice makes an appearance, bringingslight sweetness and a hint of tropical fruit.
