To make its OC Orange Vodka, the Blinking Owl Distillery in California macerate hand-cut Valencia oranges in its wheat-based vodka overnight, and then redistil it with yet more oranges in the vapour basket of the still. Made with a base spirit distilled from grain. The liquid is clear in the glass, with a sticky-sweet orange flesh aroma. The palate doesn’t match up to the aroma, it’s thinner and not very sweet, skewing more toward bitter orange, with alcohol wallop on the finish.
