Description
This is a large and robust wine with a complex and very aromatic nose. The flavours are concentrated with brambles, plum fruit, cinnamon, and nutmeg. Aged for 18 months in French oak barrels.
‘Majuelos’ translates to ‘Hawthorn’, a name given to the vineyard by the current winemaker’s grandparents. The poor gravel soils of this plot, mixed with the arid landscape places strain on the vines producing a low yield – this lead to a concentred and elegant wine with a fantastic structure.
Felix Callejo set up this winery in 1989 on the highest point of the Douro valley. The temperature shift between day and night which delivers a perfect balance of freshness and maturity. The vines are over 40 years, planted on loamy clay soils.
