Chateau Yvonne has it all: vineyards that date back to the middle ages, a cellar carved into the bedrock like some kind of Game of Thrones castle, and a true master winemaker in Matthieu Vallee. Both the reds (Cabernet Franc) and the whites (Chenin Blanc) are among the best examples of the true potential of their respective grapes. Le Gory is a single parcel, a premier cru of Saumur, planted in red clay and rocky tuffeau (a limestone common in Loire). It sees 20% new french oak, has loads of energy and texture, and ages beautifully. This is chenin blanc that rivals Burgundy. And oh yea, its freakin’ biodynamic. Less than 3 barrels produced each year!
