Distillery Information
The Dalmore distillery, located on the banks of the Cromarty Firth in the Scottish Highlands, was founded in 1839 by Alexander Matheson. In 1867, the distillery was taken over by the Mackenzie family, who introduced their Clan’s 12-pointed Royal Stag emblem to every bottle as a mark of quality and a nod to a 13th-century legend where an ancestor saved King Alexander III from a charging stag. The distillery remained under family control until 1960, when it was acquired by Whyte & Mackay, its main customer at the time. Dalmore is renowned for its innovative approach to maturation, particularly its use of different cask types, including a strong focus on exclusive aged sherry casks from the Gonzlez Byass bodega, a practice that imparts the rich, complex, and signature chocolate and orange notes for which its single malts are celebrated today.
