Origins & Craftsmanship
Domaine du Thron is part of Vignobles Pelvillain, a family estate with roots in the Cahors region of Southwest France, where Malbec has been cultivated for centuries. The estate vineyards are planted on the limestone and clay soils surrounding the Lot River, terroir that produces deeply colored wines with firm structure and aging potential.
The Prestige cuve is crafted primarily from Malbec (locally called Ct or Auxerrois), the dominant grape of the Cahors appellation.
Viticulture and winemaking emphasize concentration and careful extraction:
- Vines are planted on limestone-clay soils with controlled yields around 30 hectoliters per hectare to enhance intensity.
- Grapes are harvested in the early morning, then destemmed and gently crushed.
- Fermentation occurs in temperature-controlled stainless steel tanks to preserve fruit purity.
- The wine undergoes malolactic fermentation before being aged in French oak barrels for roughly 12 months, with about one-third new oak.
Only the best barrels are selected for the final Prestige blend, which is then refined further in bottle before release.
The result is a Cahors Malbec that expresses both the regions traditional power and a modern sense of balance and accessibility.
