Dufftown
Dufftown Distillery was established in 1895 on the site of Pittyvaich corn mill on the Dullan Water just to the south of Dufftown and in the heart of Scotlands Speyside whisky region. Despite a cramped situation Dufftown Distillerys six stills produce around six million litres of alcohol per year making it a top ten Scottish malt distillery in terms of output. Very little emerges as single malt since most flows into Bells blends. Dufftown Distillery participates in the Spirit of Speyside Whisky Festival.
The nose gives Danish pastry notes mingled with grassy, toasty and earthy nuances. There is a little grape skin and under-ripe banana. The palate is broad and fattens to reveal toasted oak, liquorice, blackcurrant and fizzing citrus. A smooth and somewhat savoury finish rounds off the experience.
