Description
El Tesoro Paradiso is one of the most distinctive Extra Aejo tequilas ever made and one that actually predates the official Extra Aejo category, which wasn’t established in Mexico until 2006. Created by the legendary Don Felipe Camarena in collaboration with Alain Royer of A. de Fussigny Cognac, Paradiso is slowly aged for five years in French oak barrels that previously held Cognac. That choice of barrel is deliberate and unique: French Cognac oak imparts elegance and floral depth that American oak simply cannot, adding layers of butterscotch, dried fruit, and a distinctive earthiness while allowing the underlying agave character to remain the star.
El Tesoro is produced at La Altea Distillery in Arandas, Jalisco founded in 1937 and one of the most respected traditional tequila producers in Mexico. The agave is estate-grown, slow-cooked in brick ovens, crushed using a tahona stone wheel (one of the most labor-intensive traditional methods), and double distilled in copper pot stills. No additives, no shortcuts. Certified additive-free by Tequila Matchmaker and scored 97 points at the Beverage Testing Institute in 2021.

Tasting Notes
Color: Deep rich gold with warm amber accents
Nose: Butterscotch, ripe fruit, fresh pineapple, roasted agave, dried herbs, and warm oak. Citrus lifts of lemon and grapefruit peel develop with time.
Palate: Silky and full grilled peaches, salted caramel, toasted nuts, stewed cherries, vanilla cream, and Cognac-soaked fruit. Earthy agave runs through the core with a hint of minerality.
Finish: Long and smooth caramel, butterscotch, toasted oak, and a gentle floral fade.
