Description
Part of the core range from Glendronach, Parliament has been aged in a mix ofoloroso and Pedro Ximnez sherry casks and is non-chill filtered. Quite sweet sherry on the nose, with fresh leather, nutty peach notes, cloves, and pepper. Rich sherried fruits on the full palate, with more pepper, ginger, and plain chocolate. The finish is long, with licorice and oak tannins.
The Parliament continues the great Glendronach tradition of offering fruit-laden intensity in its single malts. This rich expression has been named Parliament after the colony, or parliament, of rooks that have been nesting in the trees that overlook the Glendronach distillery for almost 200 years.
Tasting Notes:
Nose: Rich sherry with a mix of dried apricot and citrus peels and savory notes (concentrated beef stock, hoisin sauce). On the second sniff theres some pencil lead. Quite lovely. Gets a little saltier as it sits. With more time theres more of the pencil lead. A few drops push the fruit back at first and bring out some earthier notes: but after a minute or so theres quite a bit of plum as well.
Palate: Comes in as indicated by the nose with a touch of gunpowder as I swallow. A good drinking strength; rich texture. The fruit expands with each sip and then melds with savory gunpowder. With more time the savory notes take over. Okay, lets add water. Saltier with water and theres more dried fruit.
Finish: Long. Some oak emerges as the richer notes slowly fade. The salt turns into rock salt and merges with the gunpowder. As on the palate with water.
