We named this one with intention.

“Altadena Strong” is our latest Maker’s Mark Private Selection, bottled at 110.3 proof and built around a combination of ten staves we spent considerable time selecting. The name is a nod to our backyard and the resilience we’ve witnessed firsthand over the past year as we rebuild.

If you’re unfamiliar with the process: ten wooden staves are inserted into a single barrel of mature whiskey for several months to add richness and complexity. There are five stave profiles to choose from, providing over 1,000 possible flavor combinations.

Rather than chase novelty, our aim was simple use the available staves to draw out the best version of Maker’s itself. All the classic elements are present: creamy vanilla, toasted oak, and baking spices, lifted by rich undertones of cocoa, coffee bean, dark chocolate, and maple syrup. The Roasted French staves add depth and balance, bringing forward fruit and baking spices that mellow out the finish.
