For the first time in Mars Whisky’s Y.A. series, the blenders have decided to focus on a decently peated expression of the blend. Whiskies from both Tsunuki in Kagoshima and Komagatake in Nagano are aged on the tiny tropical island of Yakushima before being blended. The island itself is a wonderful paradox of different natural facets that all make themselves known in this exceptional blend. Constant rain, unrelenting humidity, and salty sea air play their part in what makes maturation on Yakushima so unique. For the Y.A. #04, the blenders decided to focus on smoke, and how that flavor would pair with some of this whiskies more tropical fruit-forward leaning. Aromas of gentle white smoke mingle with glossy, ripe banana, citrus peel, and milk chocolate. The flavor is a brilliantly rich balance of fruit, chocolate, and spice with an intensely smoky finish.
