Taste: This 15 year old bourbon is a premium offering, meticulously aged for 15 years in deep-charred heavy oak barrels. Crafted at the award-winning Buffalo Trace Distillery, it embodies the legacy of Julian P. Van Winkle, Sr., lovingly known as “Pappy.” Utilizing Mash Bill #2, this exceptional bourbon shares its heritage with famed blends like Blanton’s, William Larue, and Elmer T. Lee’s. Made from a sour mash of corn, malted barley, and extra rye, this highly sought-after whiskey delivers a silky, smooth experience with prominent notes of caramel corn and vanilla. On the palate, expect bold flavors of leather, oak, and tropical fruitiness. The finish is warm and inviting, with sweet essence intertwined with notes of spice and oak tannins.
History: Renowned as a unicorn in the bourbon community, this 15 year old bourbon pays tribute to Julian P. Van Winkle, Sr., or “Pappy,” whose legacy began in 1893 as a traveling whiskey salesman. He later became President of Stitzel-Weller Distillery, earning acclaim for his dedication to fine bourbon. Despite the industry’s evolution, his vow to produce superior bourbon remains unbroken. After many challenges, Julian III revitalized the familys bourbon tradition in 1981, eventually partnering with Buffalo Trace in 2002. This collaboration has upheld the high-quality standards of Old Rip Van Winkle while increasing production for future enjoyment.
